About

“In 1828 … [t]he Faust legend obsessed artists and writers; in dozens of works they told the story of the modern predicament: in gaining the power of industry, the world was sacrificing its soul. It was not the new machines themselves they feared – there were not yet many – it was machine thinking.”

Jonathan Hale, The Old Way of Seeing

I reside in Northern California, though I did live for a while in Paris in 2017 and 2018 which provided a wealth of material for my videos and thinking.

I have a background in tech industry but my passion is trying to unravel and understand how we got to where we are now.  The lenses I choose to look through are our machines, engineering, science, politics, and history.

Ultimately, my videos are about being grateful for the things we have.  Even the most mundane items in our world often have an incredible story behind them.  The world we have today was not inevitable – it’s a collection of discovery, accidents, personalities, economics, fashion, politics and a hundred other factors that all bear the fingerprints of human desires and whims.

I am not an expert in history or making things.  The videos I make is the story of my journey fumbling through the endless paths of possibility.  While the research I do or things I make are primarily for my own satisfaction, bringing you along adds another dimension and purpose to my discovery.

I hope you’ll join with me as I find and discover more.
